Starting a new topic specializing on ambient, dark ambient, ambient industrial, drone, etc. - to get deeper...

These days, I'vebeen listening a lot tgo :

Really good record, somewhere dramatic orchestral ambient and gothic doom chaos... Really worth a listen. As the others Shinjuku Thied releases, but this is really my favorite.

Never heard of this band. I'll try to get this album.

Speaking of ambient/drone these days I've been listening a lot to the last Tim Hecker record :

http://www.myspace.com/rainbowbloodx

And the amazing Stars of The Lid :

http://www.myspace.com/starsofthelid

Two bands definitely worth checking out if you're into drone/ambient.

great project, "The Witch trilogy" is nice too.

Over the last months I tend to listen a lot to one of the numerous Nordvargr releases :

one of his darkest and scarriest album.

Eno + Harold Budd. "Ambient" in its purest form, albeit using essentially the "natural" sound of the piano ... Perfect soundtrack for a rainy day.

I never really got into ISN, actually... But I only listened to 3 or 4 records, actually.

More Brian Eno :

"day of radiance"

This one is full with cymbalom, glockenspiel, small bells echoed, played on lengthy repetitive sequences ; reminding a lot of Philip Glass's work... Some people might find this irritating, I think it's beautiful.

Maggot Breeder is the long term ongoing musical project of Reuel Ordonez, filipino by birth and now residing in Montreal, Quebec. Using the guitar as the primary sound source, Maggot Breeder creates a dark yet oddly serene soundscape which invokes images of war, conflict, pain, despair and suffering.

These days, I'm listening to a lot of spoken words - which is somewhat akin to "ambient" , in a way... Rozz, Michael Moorcock on Hawkwind bootlegs...

Oh, by the way, there's a VERY good ambient track at the end of the Shane Cough record - which is, apart from that, a pure "electroclash" band.

Heid - Pilgrim of the Sublunary Worlds

One of my favorite album, which i think roll over a lot of productions you can find in this scene. No neverending samples with big bontempys soundscapes, everything here is brilliantly bring to the listener, start like a rumor to overwhelm you and goes back away to the deepest parts of earth . A splendid, ethereal and disturbing opus which never try to gouvern you but where you feel free to explore your own Sublunary worlds. A hell of a masterpiece

If you're into late-70's Tangerine Dream stuff, Klaus Schulze or Pinhas's electronic solo stuff, you'll just LOVE that project !

Me still likes this/the ambient one by M83. Okay I KNOW, it's M83. Not totally ambient, but aren't most of ambient not totally ambient?

Hmm. i tottally dig orchestral ambient, but the last Shinjuju Thief I listened to hadn't impressed me. (although the first two ones I listened to, some tracks were "grandiose", but the "dark ambient" ( ? ) ones... well, feelled just like "fillers" to me :/ )...I don't know this one. I'll listen to it.

Klaus Schulze – Dune

I’m not the biggest Klaus Schulze fan ever – I’m more of a Tangerine Dream guy ; even if I enjoy listening to Timewind from time to time, I never felt in this music the abysmal quality you can find in Tangerine Dream, or the freshness of Tim Blake’s work ; I always thought Klaus Schulze sounds like a very “calculating” musician. His recent record featuring Dead Can Dance’s Lisa Gerard didn’t help me change my mind, in my ears they really sounded like bad ambient-trance with layers of new-age voices added, so boring. But nonetheless, I decided to investigate some of his classic stuff from the seventies I had never listened to, beginning with “Dune”. Well, it was quite a nice surprise, at least half quite a nice surprise : if the first track (Dune) is quite self-indulgent, with its very dated space sounds, the second part of the record is really good. “Shadows of Ignorance” is a long synthetic track, featuring some cool vocoded voice then an appearance by Arthur “I am the lord of hellfire” Brown himself on spoken/sung voice. The idea of Arthur Brown joining Schulze may look a bit odd, but actually, it really works. I wonder what could have happened of Tangerine Dream if they had hosted a gifted vocal frontman at some point…
