Hey, we had no KC topic !!!!!!
I'll do the presentation later, I just wanted to say

is a GREAT record !!!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Power_to_Believe

I really thought I disliked King Crimson stuff after THRAK (well, "disliked" means : not liked that much), especially records without Tony Levin ; but this one is a real good surprise, with a lot of interesting electronic percussions, and some really beautiful and spiritual bits....

If you only know the first album and want to discover different KC periods, first try Red (1974) and Discipline (1981) before later stuff...

Jazz covers of King Crimson classic tracks, featuring and ex-KC drummer. I don't know what to think about it, really. The musical skills of the artists here can't be discussed, and there are some really beautiful parts ; some are quite... daring too... But is that enough for King Crimson songs ? I just felt, at times, like I was listening to a Las Vegas jazz trio playing some kind of muzak... And that's not just right. You probably have to give your own try to make yourself an opinion...

I fucking love Epitaph and its lyrics :

The wall on which the prophets wrote
Is cracking at the seams.
Upon the instruments of death
The sunlight brightly gleams.
When every man is torn apart
With nightmares and with dreams,
Will no one lay the laurel wreath
When silence drowns the screams.

Confusion will be my epitaph.
As I crawl a cracked and broken path
If we make it we can all sit back
And laugh.
But I fear tomorrow I'll be crying,
Yes I fear tomorrow I'll be crying.

Between the iron gates of fate,
The seeds of time were sown,
And watered by the deeds of those
Who know and who are known;
Knowledge is a deadly friend
When no one sets the rules.
The fate of all mankind I see
Is in the hands of fools.

Confusion will be my epitaph.
As I crawl a cracked and broken path
If we make it we can all sit back
And laugh.
But I fear tomorrow I'll be crying,
Yes I fear tomorrow I'll be crying.

King Crimson at its best. Volume 1 at least is close to perfection. "Starless" just gives me the creeps more than any other song. The final return of the basic melody after six minutes of sonic chaos is just like... The end of the world. I place this song just after Robert Wyatt's "sea song" in my top ten of desperate tracks.

ok, ten minutes long. BUt you GOTTA watch it in its fullness. Even if you don't like the first part... STUNNING. One of the saddest and angriest - yes, angriest, listen it all ! - pieces of music ever.

but I must admit John Wetton's aircut (bass/vocals) is AWFUL, while the others, for a 1974 video, were quite, OK.

FUCK ! THIS VERSION IS CUT BEFORE THE END....

Starless makes no sense without the ultra-dramatic end, where all instruments get back to the original theme, played on a distorted, sad, dirty way... Who the fuck edited that video ?

I gotta kill him.
