| I’m not a big “shoegazer”, but, quite amusingly, I do enjoy my dose of ethereal/noisy pop (especially Shelleyan Orphan, but I already told you about that, didn’t I ?)… These days, I just discovered Slowdive ; if you like cool harmonies, sky-diving guitars and this innocent lust for aural space, well, you might enjoy their records. I must add there is a somewhat goth-wave feeling battling along the pure pop vibe… Somewhat like the the first Stone Roses demos… Listening to Slowdive gave me the urge to listen to a record I hadn’t given an ear for… hum… years (actually, something like fifteen years, time flies !) : Loveless by My Bloody Valentine. Oh my god. Except for the very aged drum sound, this is a very good record ! I had forgotten the seamless wall of noise that these guys erected. Listen to “only shallow” without giving notice to the vocals, and you almost have a Dälek instrumental ! The noise, not the beats… But what a noise ! I gotta find where are my old Ride records. |

| http://www.myspace.com/theraveonettes The Raveonettes, noise-pop, sometimes poppy with hard sounding guitars, some other times noisy pop / rock melodies this one band I like it very much, but haven't had the time to listen carefully to all the albums yet... | Quote: | | The Raveonettes are a danish rock and roll duo consisting of Sune Rose Wagner (guitar, instruments, vocals) and Sharin Foo (guitar and vocals). Their music is characterized by close two-part vocal harmony inspired by Everly Brothers, coupled with hard-edged electric guitar overlaid with liberal doses of noise. Their songs juxtapose the structural and chordal simplicity of 50s and 60s rock with intense electric instrumentation, driving beats and often dark lyrical content, similar to another of the band's influences, The Velvet Underground. Altogether, they sound very much like a slightly more melodic version of The Jesus and Mary Chain. |

After repeated listens, I must say Dagger (on “Souvlaki”) is a perfectly beautiful song… It just makes me shiver. I’m thinking of doing a cover of this one (with Cheerleader 69) |

| their guitarist is often shoes gazing In Noise Mag, Dalek said "Loveless" changed his life. I'm not sure "Fear Of The Black Planet" has changed the life of Kevin Shields too.... Maybe their reunion album will be hip hop huhuhu |

| Love Spiral Downards Ethereal goth-pop with heavenly voices… Some songs are really beautiful, some are just cheesy pieces of goth-hood. I mean, take the worst of dead can dance, add some poppy drums and guitars from the dark side of the sky… That could have been interesting ; here, it’s not. Still, this album contains a few great pieces. |

| A really great album, even if not all songs on it are completely necessary... Oh by the way, you ABSOLUTELY need to get the bonus tracks version ; the instrumental "Grasshopper" (originally on the Chromewaves EP) is just incredible. 11 minutes, happiness.

| thesis on MBV online in pdf http://etd.lib.fsu.edu/theses/available/etd-04102006-103749/ | Quote: | Abstract
Throughout the course of history, numerous works of art have stood at the forefront of their respective genres. British indie band My Bloody Valentine’s Loveless is one such work. Their unique sound on the album defined a sub-genre of indie rock known as shoegaze. This thesis is the first major academic study of My Bloody Valentine and their decisive presentation of shoegazer aesthetics: Loveless.
In the first chapter, I trace the origins of shoegaze as a resultant effect of the punk, postpunk, and indie movements that came before it. Later in the chapter, I discuss the music of several important shoegazer bands. Then, deduced from their commonalities, I imply a characterization of shoegaze. During the second chapter, I focus more specifically on My Bloody Valentine. By means of a basic biography, I present My Bloody Valentine’s development and struggles as a band in order to emphasize the profundity of their final album, Loveless, on both musical and interpersonal levels. In the third chapter, I present an analysis of Loveless using both traditional and non-traditional methods. The goal of this process is to gain further insight into the new realm of sound possibilities My Bloody Valentine discovered and thus attain a better understanding of their dream-like art. The chapter stresses the significant innovations presented on the album. The final chapter offers the reception of Loveless. I accomplish this by dissecting several reviews, both official and unofficial, with the intention of highlighting its virtually unanimous positive response.
Throughout the thesis, I have attempted to combine both academic and journalistic writing and research standards so that interested persons from both areas may benefit from its reading. The essential objective of this thesis is to justify My Bloody Valentine as one of the most important bands in music history while also presenting a contemporary model for popular music studies. |

yeah, great album with the famous epic track "Leave Them All Behind" ! The previous ride album called Nowhere is also great and inspired to Gregg Araki the title for his movie. |

MP3s: Three Unreleased My Bloody Valentine songs
Wow. I’m really at a loss of words now given that we haven’t heard anything new from the band since 1991’s Loveless. As more information on the origins of these tracks is exposed, we’ll report back and update the post. |
