This is one of the most disturbing movie about personnal madness (and so many otherthings) I've never seen !

You can love it, or hate it, but not stay indifferent.

The actors are very good.
I didn't hate the film, but didn't like it.
The shocking scenes are not the problem.
What Lars Von Trier has to express, and how he does it, doesn't interests me much.
The beginning (except the opening scene which is ridiculous to me) of the movie is quite good, but it turns to balls.

You should look for resume on Allociné, to know about the story.
Out of the story, it talks about boredom in a woman's mind. Difficult to explain in french, so in english...
But Lars Von trier is the kind of director who puts his mental shit of crazy guy in his films, and lets people make their own intellectual and structured development.

I look so forward to seeing it!
1/ Great great great great fan of Charlotte Gainsbourg and well she gets a prize for it (Cannes, isn't it? well, I thinks it was early in the year).
2/ and I need to improve my lil skills about cinema. -_-' (So pithyful).
3/ The esthetic of the commercial, in less than a minute, Lars Von Trier catches me. Very Happy
Maybe next wednesay i'll see it. Smile

Ok, so you missed Lars Von trier to go and see a Lars Von Trier instead ; quite clever..
Anyway, you didn't miss much, letting the audience ask questions never really was a good idea if you ask me (lol).. and as for the interview, the journalist (or wathever he was) was quite awful. Still, it was funny to see Von Trier's reactions when he was supposed to answer and wouldn't know how..
All in all, the interview wasn't very interesting, largely because of the lameness of the questions.
As for the short films, they weren't great but still worthy watching, even if they were kind of depressing, and as Von Trier said himself, it was quite a cruel trick to play on him, showing such films flash
If he has even a small chance of ever becoming famous, one should never let his student movies get any chance to get out in the open EVER AGAIN. That's a lesson Von Trier just learned the hard way ha ha

One of the scariest movie in the world !
Scary, surrealistic horror, sickening, unforgettable and real.
I lived a lot of nightmares that we see in the movie.
Especially about death and evil.

I felt the same when i saw ERASERHEAD ! Unsane but honest and true ! It's not about entertainement...For sure ! It's about exploring twisted state of mind.

Seen it last evening... well, am I alone having laught when the fox is speaking ?? "Chaoooos Reeeeiiiigns" I think it was a nervous laught, but it really makes me think about the funny Sam Raimi's movie Drag me to Hell (when the billy goat is possessed), and it was stronger than me. I was just enable to stop laughing !
For the rest, I don't really know... personally, after the scene with the fox, every overstatement of horror was a new joke, so, difficult to stay concerned by the drama. Really loved frames with extreme slow motion, and aesthetic of the movie in general, but I regret the reality of the "diegese" didn't convice me at all.

I didn't laughed, but I was really close!

I think this movie is spoiled by many failed effects (gore and nudity when it's near from usefull, so it's funny) and a foggy meaning (WTF symbolism and anti-feminist theory??).

Too bad, there's pretty pictures and unique atmosphere.

It's funny you should question the "comical" aspect of the film ; the question was asked at the interview, as to wether or not it was meant to be funny, wether or not the part of the audience who felt like laughing (or did actually laugh) was missing something or was mislead somehow about the true intent of the scenes.
Von Trier was quite amused that the person asking took so many precaution, as if it could "hurt" him that one would consider his movie as "funny", and said he wouldn't make a movie if he didn't find it funny, and that all of his films were intended as some kind of twisted jokes.. I don't really remember his exact words, but apparently, the comical side of these movies is no accident -it can be quite obvious in some, a little less in others ; I haven't seen Antichrist yet though, so I can't really say much more right now..
