I've been trying for years to obtain a certain kind of old-school sampling sounds - more or less what can be heard on the vocal and guitars sample on the old Swamp Terrorists records - but I never got satisfied by the plug-ins I tried. What kind of bit-crushing-lo-fiyzing-filtering gear do you use ? I'm especially interested in plug-ins, but hardware too...

I'm really thinking of getting my old S-900 back to work, anyway... That's not really the sound I wanna get but at least it really coloured the sound.

VX for the distortions fx you should take a look at the Ohmforce plugs, usually praised... if you haven't yet

(and yeah for certain type of sounds, and old sampler could be a good idea for certain colors ... and well a 12bit sound?)

I used those.. sometimes. They're good. (as distortion / sounddirtier..)

hmm i haven't used any lofi or disto since a good while so i don't remember much about..... i had/have a huge collections of distos as VSTis... but i used to simply use what came with Ableton or Renoise for the lofi/bitcrusher effects.. i think. i'm gonna check my gigs of VSTs to refresh my memory when i get to my computer.

i haven't looked at my directories of audio things yet.

but I found that bitcrusher

http://kunz.corrupt.ch/?Products:VST_TAL-Bitcrusher

i know the TAL Elek7ro II and SH101 emu and UNO 61 that are very good softsynths, i haven't tried the bitcrusher, so can't say anything about it, (but if you don't mind trying *just another plug*...)

(btw the D16 Decimort and the other one i forgot the name (saw that on the mind) should really be good if they're as good as the other vsts i know from D16. and they seem quite featured..)

I'm trying a lot of VSTs right now... "Camel Crusher" is quite interesting, even if more of a distortion.
